Fresno

Today is a day off, and I find myself in Fresno, CA. Just woke up on the bedroom floor at my best friend’s place. Tika is my bookkeeper, so it’s not really a day off at all. Soon as she wakes up, we both will be inundated with receipts and number crunching as we get everything on the finances side of things set up for the business. Got a fun-filled day ahead of us!

Played an awesome show last night at the Midtown Village Café in Sacramento that my friend, Jim, from the band Waning helped to set up. Spent an hour or so hanging out at Ian’s before making the drive south to Fresno.

Tomorrow is Santa Cruz, and after that a last minute addition in Frisco that I found in replying to a show availability on Indieonthemove.com. I’m really looking forward to seeing Jesse and the crew down there.

Adventure waits, but right now it’s time to focus on the business. The only thing I’m really looking forward to about today is hanging out with Tika. I fucking hate paperwork and money, but it’s a necessary party of the whole process of owning a business.

Yesterday, Ian let me hear two of the finished tracks from our collaborative experimental project. I’m excited, it sounds like the butthole surfers had sex with some earlier industrial music. I’m doing spoken word, and Ian is creating the soundtrack behind it. He was the perfect person to ask. We’ve pretty much always been in tune when it comes to the music we love…even on the obscure shit. For the last 10 years or so, whenever we’ve said to each other, “Hey check out this band”, we’ve either already loved the band, or are excited for the addition of new music to our collection. Ian was the first person who popped into my head when I decided to move forward on my spoken word/noise project. I spent an hour prior to the show recording another 12 tracks or so, and I look forward to the end result when Ian is finally done.

With this collaboration, and the album Jeff and I are working on out here on the road, that should mark 2 releases for me this year that are completely different from anything else that I’ve done. I’m excited to see what else I can play with musically in the future. 🙂
